Govt Procurement Of MSMEs Reaches New Highs

According to the public procurement policy monitoring portal MSME Sambandh, since FY19 the central government’s aggregate purchase from MSEs has exceeded the 25% minimum yearly criterion on a consistent basis.

The government also provides free-of-cost tender sets and exemption from the payment of earnest money to MSEs under the public procurement policy for MSEs.

The government also runs the Government eMarketplace (GeM) site for online commodities procurement. GeM now has over 40 lakh MSMEs registered as sellers, 7.64 lakh of which are MSEs. Growth in procurement share of women MSEs from 0.49% to 0.94% for the period 2021-22.

According to statistics, the number of MSE beneficiaries in public procurement increased by 49% from 1.28 lakh in FY19 to 1.91 lakh in FY22.
